Visits Programme

Showlight always includes a social programme of visits. Showlight 2013 will be the first time the event has been held in the Czech Republic, and the location of the host town of Cesky Krumlov has given us the opportunity to put together a diverse programme of visits of cultural, commercial and industrial interest.

• The Baroque Theatre
  Showlight is being held at the Castle in Cesky Krumlov and inside is one of the oldest fully operational Baroque Theatres still in existence, dating from 1760. Some of our tours will visit the theatre, including a backstage tour to see how our ancestors carried out their backstage tasks.
• The Budweiser Brewery
  A visit to sample the local brew is always popular and, in this case, the original Budweiser, not to be confused with any other. This visit includes a tour round one of the most amazing industrial bottling plants in Europe.
• Eggenberg Brewery
  The local brewery in Cesky Krumlov, this is situated right below the castle walls. A smaller and more traditional brewery, this is very different to the highly industrialised and automated Budweiser Brewery.
• Graphite Mine
  The local graphite mine is no longer in operation but it is open for underground tours. Not for the claustrophobic, this trip takes you on a little train to the working faces of the mine from where you walk back to the surface looking at the machinery involved in cutting the ore from the rock face. You are issued with overalls and hard hats and you get the chance to continually set and focus your very own miner's lamp!
• Koh-i-Noor Pencil Factory
  An opportunity to see lead pencils being made, from start to finish!
• Schwan Cosmetics
  Schwan is the leading private label manufacturer of cosmetic pencils and products, and here you get the opportunity to see the whole manufacturing process from the mix that forms the applied colour, through the forming of the pencil wood to the addition of the glossy paint and designer label. Schwan manufactures for many of the big high street names from Helena Rubenstein to Boots No.7 and make well over 100,000,000 pencils a year! A fascinating visit.
• South Bohemian State Theatre
  Cesky is close to Budejovice where the South Bohemian State Theatre is based. This regional theatre combines old and new technologies and is highly regarded in the southern Czech Republic. Once again the visit will include a backstage tour.
• Cesky Theatre
  As well as the Baroque Theatre, Cesky also has a small town theatre. Robe, the main sponsor for Showlight 2013 and many delegates will want see Robe's equipment in action and talk directly to Robe staff. The visit to the Town Theatre will include a lighting demonstration and the chance to lay hands on Robe equipment.

There is also the opportunity to visit the Robe Factory after the close of Showlight.

Obviously, with so much to see and only one afternoon available, each visit will be limited to just a few of the visit schedules. However, if you want to extend your time in Cesky Krumlov, you can add some sight-seeing into a few days of relaxation post Showlight and take in everything!
