We are excited to announce we have a special feature amongst our regular programme of events at Showlight 2017 as we host the Neal Preston photographic exhibition, In the Eye of the Rock ’n’ Roll Hurricane from the Lightpower Collection.
When it comes to Rock ’n’ Roll photography, Neal Preston is the most outstanding photographer in the live and documentary genre. Throughout a career spanning more than 40 years, he has built up the most extensive body of work in R ’n’ R history: from Alice Cooper to Frank Zappa, from Led Zeppelin to Queen – he has had all the greats in front of his camera. The pictures taken during this time show an attitude to life as well as the excitement on and off the stage.
For three years the Lightpower Collection has toured worldwide with the exhibition In the Eye of the Rock ’n’ Roll Hurricane, which shows the body of Preston’s work. The exhibition shows more than 70 of his iconic pictures: legendary album covers, views behind the scenes, moments that made history – the essence of Rock ’n’ Roll and concert touring that has dominated out industry since the late 60s.
Now it is Showlight’s turn to proudly present the Lightpower Collection which honours and celebrates those legends in the limelight, while returning something to those who worked hard in the background to make this all happen.
The exhibition offers a multimedia experience, beyond the stories behind the pictures, which can be heard on headphones and via film clips featuring commentaries by Neal Preston and his contemporaries. Memorabilia from his career are also on display.
The exhibition has already been enthusiastically received by visitors at the Montreux Jazz Festival, at LDi in Las Vegas, at LLB in Stockholm or at Musikmesse Frankfurt. “Bringing this exhibition to Showlight is a great experience as this celebrated quadrennial brings the DNA of the industry together in a unique way,” says Lightpower Collection’s owner, Ralph-Jörg Wezorke. “Organised specifically for lighting professionals by lighting professionals – you can’t get closer! A special thanks to Showlight and Claypaky for inviting and supporting us.”
Neal Preston’s fine art prints are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. All proceeds from Lightpower Collection sales go to Behind the Scenes (behindthescenescharity.org/bts.htm) and Backup (www.backuptech.uk), foundations that provide relief for event technicians in need.
The collection will be presented in the Galleria Rooms, upstairs at the Villa Vittoria, beside the Claypaky, ADB and Osram exhibits and demonstration rooms.
