John Allen – Chair of Showlight

24.6.2016 – We are pleased to announce that registration for Showlight 2017 in Florence is now open. Just click on the ‘registration’ link and you will be directed straight to our registration page on the Eventbrite website where you can choose your tickets . . .

Many of you who have attended in the past will know the format in that you can join us for the full event which, as well as all the Papers sessions, includes the Saturday evening reception, the Sunday evening company-sponsored dinners, the Monday afternoon visits and the main Showlight Gala Dinner. For this you need to choose the Full Delegate ticket.

Alternatively, if you just want to attend the Papers sessions on Sunday, Monday morning and Tuesday with, of course, lunch, tea and coffee breaks, you can register for Papers Session Only tickets. These can be purchased for all three days of Showlight or any single day. All tickets are available online. Papers Sessions Only tickets can also be obtained at Showlight on the day, subject to availability.

One big change for Showlight this year is that we are introducing simultaneous translation for the Papers. Previously, the event has been conducted solely in English but this year, as we are located in Florence and look forward to welcoming many local delegates, we are offering an Italian translation service for the first time. We are indebted to sponsorship from Osram who have supported this service at the event.

Showlight 2017 will also include an exhibition at which many of the major lighting equipment manufacturers and service providers will be present. Exhibitor details are being continually updated on the website and we are pleased to announce that we have already sold over 65% of the available stands.

News on Papers for presentation will be released soon. With more suggestions reaching them every week, the Papers Committee, chaired by Ian Dow, are in the midst of the difficult but enjoyable task of assessing the proposals submitted, and will soon make their final selection. It is still not too late to put forward a proposal for a Paper to the committee: for details on the topics under consideration this year, go to the ‘Call for Papers’ section on the website.

Florence is a popular destination, and accommodation in May is hard to come by in city centre hotels. As a result, and to assist you with finding accommodation, we have blocked out a substantial number of rooms, at discounted rates for Showlight delegates, in hotels that are not too far from the Palazzo for the days of Showlight. You can access these via the link on the website. You can find this on the Travel & Accommodation page of the drop down menu under ‘Visitors’.

For those of you who are students on lighting courses, we offer the opportunity for a limited number to attend free of charge, with your place at Showlight sponsored by one of the exhibitors. To apply for one of these free tickets, please contact Rob Dyer, students@showlight.org who will be looking after students again this year. In return for your sponsored attendance, each student is asked to make themselves available to help their exhibitor with his stand fit-up on Saturday 20 May and the de-rig on Tuesday 23 May. All stands are of a modest size so this is not an onerous task.

If you are not lucky enough to be allocated a sponsored place, there are a number of reduced cost student tickets and, once again, Rob is your man to contact regarding these.

There will be more information on all aspects of Showlight 2017 over the next few months specifically relating to Visits, Company dinner preferences and Papers, so watch this space.

We look forward to seeing you all in Florence next May and do email us if you have any queries and we will help you out as best we can.
